DATE & TIME: July 21, 2016

LOCATION: 10th / Court St.; Beatrice

OFFENSE: Driving Under Suspension, Obstructing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest

CASE #: 2016-3779

On Thursday July 21, 2016 at approximately 2210 hours, a deputy was parked near 8th & Brown St. in Beatrice.  The deputy observed a vehicle drive slowly by a house near 8th & Perkins St.  The vehicle then turned around and parked in front of the house near 8th & Perkins St.  When the vehicle parked it was approximately 2-3’ away from the curb.  The driver then exited the vehicle and approached a residence with what appeared to be a flashlight.  After approximately 30-45 seconds the driver returned to the vehicle and drove away northbound on 8th St.

Based on the observations the deputy suspected that the driver had possibly just committed a burglary or theft.  The deputy conducted a traffic stop at 10th St. & Court St.  When the vehicle came to a stop the driver exited the vehicle and took off running east across 10th St. and down an alley.  The deputy pursued the driver on foot and gave her loud verbal commands to stop.  The driver kept on running and jumped over a fence in a backyard and was able to get away.

Beatrice Police Officers and an additional Gage County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the area.  A few minutes later another deputy was checking the area and observed the driver hiding next to a house.  The driver took off running again north across Court St. between 10th and 11th St. and ignored several verbal commands to stop and kept running.  After another foot pursuit the driver was apprehended in the 100 block of N. 10th St.

After the driver had been placed into custody she was identified as Jasmine M. Eubanks, age 18 of Beatrice.  Eubanks was non-compliant and yelled several racial slurs at officers and deputies.  Eubanks also pulled away several times from officers and deputies in an attempt to break free and she also resisted attempts at placing her into a patrol unit.

A Beatrice Police K-9 conducted a sniff of Eubanks vehicle and indicated the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle.  During a subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle, an opened bottle of Vodka, which was approximately 1/3 full, was located in the vehicle.  A digital scale, consistent with illegal drug use, was also located in the vehicle.

Eubanks operator’s license was found to be suspended as of 06/23/16 for failure to comply.

Eubanks was transported to the Gage County Detention Center where she was lodged on criminal charges including No Stopping, Standing, or Parking in a Roadway; Driving under Suspension; Obstructing a Police Officer; Resisting Arrest, and Open Alcohol Container in a motor vehicle.  The digital scale that was recovered from Eubanks’ vehicle will be sent to the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Lab to be tested for the presence of controlled substances.  Additional charges are pending.
