CASE #: 2021-1801

On Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at approximately 12:05 pm, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Hwy 77 and West Hwy 41 interchange for a two-vehicle accident with injuries.

Brian Harms of Kimball, Ne was driving a 2016 International Semi and was attempting to turn onto Hwy 41 west when his truck was struck by a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Stevin Gilliam of Lincoln. The collision caused the fuel tank on Harms’ truck to rupture, spilling approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.

Cortland Fire Department responded to the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol rerouted traffic via Hwy 41 east while the intersection was being cleared. Cortland Rescue transported Gilliam to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln where he was treated for minor injuries. Harms was not injured. Gage County Emergency Management was dispatched along with Gage County Highway Department, Nebraska Department of Transportation and Beatrice Fire Department. Hwy 77 south was blocked off while clean up of the fuel took place.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

The accident investigation is still active.
