Missing Person

DATE & TIME: 10/22/23 approximately 1100 hours                                                     

LOCATION: S. 80^th RD & B Line RD (east of Blue Springs)                                         

OFFENSE: Missing Person

On 10/22/23 at approximately 11:00 A.M., the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to 7540 E. Maple RD. Holmesville, NE, the residence of Virgil Janzen, 62 years of age.

Family members and friends were reporting that they had not heard from Janzen since the morning hours of 10/21/23 and he did not arrive for work on 10/22/23. It was also reported that the farm chores had not been done for the day. They attempted numerous times to call Janzen by cell phone but it kept going to voicemail. The family stated all of these circumstances were unlike Janzen and they believed something was wrong.

Family and friends began searching Janzen’s property, as well as other farm ground where Janzen may be. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office utilized Southeast Communications to conduct a ping of Janzen’s cell phone. The results were showing the cell phone in the area of S. 80^th and B Line Road.

Janzen was located in a pasture where he had been clearing trees. Janzen was found trapped under a fallen tree. Janzen stated he became trapped under the tree at approximately 2:00 P.M on 10/21/23. Janzen was life-flighted to Bryan West Hospital to be assessed for his injuries.

Wymore Rescue, Blue Springs Fire & Rescue and Star Care all responded to the scene.
