Motor Vehicle Accident

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a rollover accident on East Sage Road, just west of the Village of Liberty. The investigation revealed 62-year-old Steven Hietbrink of Lincoln was driving eastbound on East Sage Road when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, went down a steep incline on the bank, drove a short distance in the grassy ditch, then attempted to return to the roadway by steering up the steep embankment. The driver was able to return to the shoulder of the roadway, narrowly averting driving into a deep creek, and continued a short distance before stopping on the steep embankment on the roadway. The vehicle, however was listing seriously to the right side while on the embankment and after stopping, rolled over onto its right side.

The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was able to exit the vehicle and reported only minor injuries. Neither speed nor alcohol are considered a factor in the accident.

A member of the Wymore Volunteer Fire Department was able to respond to the scene and provided palliative care and comfort to Hietbrink until deputies arrived. The vehicle was towed to Liberty Repair at the owner’s request.
