On Line Dating/Chat Room - Fraud/Scam

OFFENSE: On Line Dating/Chat Room - Fraud/Scam

On the afternoon hours of March 26, 2018 a Gage County Sheriff's Deputy was speaking to a 48 year old Beatrice resident on a non-related investigation. During the conversation the resident told the deputy about a person she had met in an on-line dating chat room. It was relayed that this male subject was going to wire her funds into her bank account. The resident stated that she had provided her bank account information to an overseas male. The transaction was a scam to obtain banking information. The deputy worked with resident and her bank to secure her funds and change her account. Swift action by the Gage County Sheriff's Office prevented the theft from the victim's account.

The Gage County Sheriff's Office asks that you use caution when dealing with on-line individuals. They are very good at sounding legitimate, but you will lose your money.

Citizens are reminded not to provide any bank account information or Social Security numbers to anyone over the Internet or phone.
