A Wymore resident called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and informed an investigator she had received a phone call from 616-345-3856, which had an automated message from someone claiming to be from the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). The message stated they had been trying to contact her for six months and if she did not call back within six hours they would contact the local courthouse and have a warrant issued for her arrest. She stated she was immediately aware this was an attempt to defraud her and she had been previously contacted by a different number a few months ago with a similar type scam. She did not lose any money and the caller did not use her name or address.

Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call should not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information such as bank account or credit card information. Do not call the person back. Immediately contact the local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
