Sex Offender Registration Violation / Arrest

DATE & TIME: 11-13-2017 @ 0900

LOCATION: Gage County Sheriff’s Office

OFFENSE: Sex Offender Registration Violation / Arrest

CASE #: 2017-6196

Jared Austin Eppens, 30, of Beatrice, was arrested on Monday, November 13, 2017 at approximately 9:00 am at the Gage County Sheriff’s Office for failure to update or verify his registered sex offender status as a “transient” in the Beatrice Area.  Registered Sex Offenders, who report a “transient” status are required to update the sheriff’s office on their status every 30 days or less.

Jared Austin Eppens had been convicted of a sex offense against a juvenile in Colorado in 2012 and moved to Nebraska in 2016.  He filed a transient status with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office in October of 2017, but failed to update or verify his status within 30 days.

An investigator with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Nebraska State Patrol Sex Offender Registration Unit of Eppens’ failure to update his status.  The investigator notified other deputies of the offense, which is a felony, and when Eppens came to the sheriff’s office on Monday, November 13, 2017, a lieutenant from the sheriffs’ office took Eppens into custody at the sheriff’s office without incident.
