Motor Home Fire at S 63rd Road / East Maple Road

DATE & TIME:             07-19-2016 / 0130 hours

LOCATION:                South 63rd Road / East Maple Road

OFFENSE:                   Vehicle Fire

CASE #:                       2016-3693

On July 19, 2016 the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of a vehicle on fire near the area of South 63rd Road and East Maple Road east of Blue Springs, Nebraska.  The Blue Springs Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, however the vehicle, a 1988 Honey motor home, was completely destroyed by the fire, with an estimated damage/loss of $8,500.00.

An investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigated the scene and requested assistance from the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office.  A Nebraska State Fire Marshal responded to the location of the vehicle fire and investigated the fire scene.   The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office is reviewing their reports to possibly determine a cause of the fire and where in the vehicle the fire had started.

Three witnesses who were driving in the area had called 911 to report the fire and reported seeing large flames coming from the vehicle.  The damaged vehicle had been parked at that location for at least three days and the owner, Janelle Hurley, stated she had been having mechanical problems with the motor home.

The motor home had been parked along the roadside and not in operation when the fire started.  There were no injuries from the fire reported to the sheriff’s office.
